Welcome to my review of Maxwell House Max Coffee. There are mixed reviews for this coffee. I will give my honest opinion on what there is to like and dislike about it.
What Led Me To Start Drinking Maxwell House Max Coffee
At one point I was all about the espresso. Always got a pretty good mental boost from just a small cup. A full sized coffee never did anything for me.
Well actually that’s not true. There was one brand of coffee which worked wonders for me and that was Starbucks.
I don’t know what it is, but after a few sips I always started feeling a buzz and became very productive throughout the day. That’s only with a freshly brewed cup from any Starbucks location. And who knows how much caffeine can be found in their freshly brewed cups.
I never got the same effect from Starbucks beans you can purchase at local grocery stories.
So over time I discovered Maxwell House would soon be releasing a new coffee called Max Boost which comes with one and a half times the caffeine.
I couldn’t believe it because here in Canada, there aren’t really any highly caffeinated coffees available at grocery stores. There are quite a few in the U.S. but not here in Canada.
Just Located A 10 Pack For The Keurig Machine
I was exploring a Walmart one morning and noticed they sold the 10 pack. I believe the price was $7.97 and for me that was a little too expensive.
For the time being I put the idea of purchasing it on hold. I decided to wait and see if it would ever go on sale.
Did The Coffee Ever Go On Sale?
I was becoming both impatient and annoyed. With their huge coffee pod selection it seemed like many of them were constantly going on sale. But not this one. It remained the full price of $7.97 throughout.
At one point I felt like giving up.
Walmart was the only retail store close to me which had good sales on coffee products. For me to try another retail outlet, lots of additional driving would be required
I kept telling myself to be patient. One day the coffee pods would go on sale and the wait would be worth it.
I Was Completely Shocked
Many weeks later I did something completely profound. (If that makes any sense). I walked into Walmart and went straight to the coffee section.
Now check this out.
As I walked into the aisle, I peeked to the right and noticed a big empty space on the shelf.
There was a SALE tag below and it showed Max Boost on sale for $4.97.
10 Keurig pods on sale for $4.97. Around 50 cents a pod.
I honestly couldn’t believe it. Never thought the day would come.
So I decided to take action because if I didn’t, other crazy customers who also waited 5 months, 14 days and 7 hours for it to go on sale, would come and take them away from me.
As I peeked on the shelf, there were only two boxes left.
I guess people knew about it before I did. How dare they!
So I grabbed the last two and ran to the cashier.
Finally Got To Try It
After getting to the office, I showed a coworker and mentioned they were on sale for around $5 a box.
This was the first time I ever bought them. Was also the first time ever seeing them on sale at Walmart.
Never felt right paying $8 for a box of 10 Keurig pods.
At work once I got fully caught up with everything, I opened a box and took out a pod.
Next I stuck it into the Keurig machine and brewed a small cup.
How Did It Taste?
Are you a fan of Starbucks coffee?
Similar to a cup of Starbucks – Burnt taste with a caffeine kick.
What Kind Of Effect Did It Have?
Normally I drink my coffee straight – black with nothing added in.
If one morning I’m not feeling the taste of super strong coffee, I will add a bit of cream to it.
Also depends on how I feel in the morning.
If very tired, I will drink it on an empty stomach. It gets to the head quicker and sometimes gives me a buzz.
If slightly tired, I will have it with some food and drink it slowly.
Maxwell House Max Boost Coffee
PROS – Extra caffeine will give you a mental energy boost. Also may help improve your concentration.
CONS – Comes with a burnt coffee taste.
I truly believe this coffee is worth purchasing if you need something to really wake you up.
You may feel it more drinking on an empty stomach though. I have quite a bit of this coffee both at home and in the workplace.
Once my supply runs out…
I Am Now Out Of Max Boost Coffee
Oh dear, my supply has officially run out. I need to purchase more. But who knows when Walmart would have it on sale again.
Actually, not so fast.
Now that I know what the coffee tastes like and how good the caffeine kick is, maybe I won’t care for it to be on sale anymore.
Just remembered I have an Amazon account and never thought about checking for it there.
So I did a search and many options came available.
I ended up purchasing
- 60 pack of Keurig pods
- 24 pack of Keurig pods
- Large tin of ground coffee.
This has worked very well for me.
I have the pods to use in the office and if I need a super strong kick in the morning, I use the ground coffee for my morning espressos.

Hey,
I have drank Maxwell House coffee lots of times, but never heard of Maxwell House Max. It sounds like it may do the trick with that caffeine kick I crave in the morning. It might stop me from drinking so much coffee during the day too.
I’m going to give it a try, and I’ll let you know what I think.
Thanks for sharing.
All the best,
Tom
Good to hear Tom!
It’s not the best tasting but does give a pretty good caffeine kick.
